Zucchero - Menta e Rosmarino

cadono giu' stalle e stelle
lacrime al tramonto
gocce di luce dagli occhi
e la notte acceca
e qui che a casa mia
ormai ritorno
ci incontreremo stasera
menta e rosmarino
che ho preso a calci le notti
per starti piu' vicino
amor d'amore sia
amor perduto
i feel so lonely tonight
se per farmi male ti amai
i feel so lonely tonight
se per farmi vivo ti amai
cadono giu' stalle e stelle
e una monetina
i miei pensieri in farfalle
dentro la mattina
e qui che a casa mia
ormai ritorno
i feel so lonely tonight
se per farmi male ti amai
i feel so lonely tonight
se per farmi vivo ti amai
con l'anima in piena
mi scombinai
mi smemorai
i feel so lonely tonight
se per farmi male ti amai
i feel so lonely tonight
se per farmi vivo ti amai
i feel so lonely tonight
se per farmi male ti amai
i feel so lonely tonight
se per farmi vivo ti amai

Il sogno che si sogna

Voglio essere ammesso in quel giardino
coltivato in segreto ove fiorisce
il pensiero proibito, il desiderio
impossibile, il sogno che si sogna
per fuggire la morte di ogni giorno...

E' prigione

e' prigione

questo cortile

dove torno.

Attendo che tu mi porga

come allora

la prima rosa bianca

cresciuta

sotto l'azzurro dei tuoi occhi.

La lingua dei padri

Un populu
mittitilu a catina
spugghiatilu
attuppatici a vucca,
è ancora libiru.

Livatici u travagghiu
u passaportu
a tavula unni mancia
u letti unni dormi
è ancora riccu.

Un populu,
diventa poviru e servu
quannu ci arrobbanu 'a lingua
addutata di patri:
è persu pi sempri.

Diventa poviru e servu,
quannu i paroli nun figghianu paroli
e si mancianu tra d'iddi.
Mi nn'addugnu ora,
mentri accordu a chitarra du dialettu
ca perdi na corda lu jornu.

Take a people
put it in chains
strip it raw
bung its mouth
it's still free.

Deny it work
a passport
a place to eat
a bed to sleep in
it's still rich.

A people gets
poor and slavish
only if robbed of the tongue
issuing from its source.

It gets poor and slavish
when its words are sterile
and devour each other.
(I realize now, tuning
my dialect lute, that
it loses one string per day

Lucio Battisti - Only

Only
Only for a moment
Falling
In some other dream
Someone else beside me
Not you
Though we're not together now
I know I'll be
More in love with you

Like an airplane
Circling in the mist
Solitary spirals in the air
Seeking runways that we've missed
Nothing more to fear
We're there
Just below the clouds
The love we have is ours to share

Something in the spring
A few short years ago
Touched us has grown and overwhelmed us
that may be why we hide
our memories deep inside
for in the winter winds
Such little things
Will warm and reassure us

Only
But only for a moment
When least expected
And at times we're strangers
And you get lonely
Like me
It really doesn't matter
I know it can only
Make me love you more
And you get lonely
Lonely like me
I know it can only
Make me love you more

Io non ho mani

Io non ho mani
che mi accarezzino il volto,
(duro è l'ufficio
di queste parole
che non conoscono amori)
non so le dolcezze
dei vostri abbandoni:
ho dovuto essere
custode
della vostra solitudine:
sono
salvatore
di ore perdute.

L'amore mi si offri'

For love was offered me and I shrank from its disillusionment;
Sorrow knocked at my door, but I was afraid;
Ambition called to me, but I dreaded the chances.
Yet all the while I hungered for meaning in my life.
And now I know that we must lift the sail
And catch the winds of destiny
Wherever they drive the boat.
To put meaning in one’s life may end in madness,
But life without meaning is the torture
Of restlessness and vague desire—
It is a boat longing for the sea and yet afraid.

***

L’amore mi si offrì e io mi ritrassi all’inganno;
il dolore bussò alla mia porta ed io ebbi paura;
